About John
John Gilroy is a founding partner of Gilroy Napoli Short, LLC. Before starting the firm, he served as a Deputy District Attorney at the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, one of Oregon’s largest prosecutor’s offices. During his tenure, he prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases, from misdemeanors to serious felonies. His experience as a prosecutor provided him with valuable insight into the criminal justice system, allowing him to effectively defend clients facing criminal charges, DUI, and personal injury claims.
John has been recognized for his legal skill and dedication to his clients, earning a nomination as an Oregon Super Lawyer for the past five years in a row. In 2014, he was also selected as a member of The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only organization that honors the most distinguished attorneys in the country. These accolades highlight his reputation for excellence in criminal defense and trial advocacy.
Background
John earned his degree in political science from Santa Clara University in 1993 and his law degree from the University of Oregon in 1998. Before attending law school, he worked in Washington, D.C., as a legislative aide for Senator Robert Packwood.
Born and raised in the Portland area, John comes from a family with deep legal roots. He is the youngest of seven children and the son of the late Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge, Patrick D. Gilroy. Two of his brothers also practice law in the metro area.
Outside of his legal work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. He is an avid golfer, skier, and fisherman, and also enjoys basketball, hiking, and camping.
