Conner Egan is an experienced associate attorney whose practice focuses on defending individuals accused of crimes, including DUII, out of the firm’s Portland office. Prior to joining Gilroy Napoli Short, Conner was a Deputy District Attorney for Marion County, Oregon, where he prosecuted both misdemeanor and felony cases ranging from DUII and property crimes to Measure 11 child sex abuse crimes. In addition, Conner has extensive experience in handling the complexities of cases involving a person with a mental illness. Conner has also clerked in the District Attorney Offices of Multnomah County, Lane County, and Jackson County and worked in the Oregon State Legislature as a criminal law policy advisor. Conner uses his experience and expertise to help clients through a difficult time in their lives by guiding them through the criminal justice system and advocating for a fair and just outcome.

Background

Conner is a graduate of the University of Oregon where he majored in Political Science and Religious Studies. He earned his law degree at the University of Oregon School of Law. Conner was born and raised in Medford, Oregon, the son of two school teachers. When he is not in the office, you can find him chasing his kids around and spending time with his family.

Joseph’s early experiences shaped his commitment to justice and advocacy. While earning his law degree, he honed his skills as a certified law clerk at Gilroy Napoli Short, gaining invaluable courtroom experience across the state. This hands-on exposure allowed him to navigate the intricacies of various legal proceedings and develop a keen understanding of the criminal justice system. His clerkship at the Clark County District Attorney’s Office further refined his analytical skills and deepened his passion for defending the rights of individuals.

As a criminal defense attorney, Joseph is dedicated to ensuring that every client receives a fair trial and their rightful day in court. Background

Joseph graduated from Grand Canyon University with a bachelor’s degree in government with an emphasis in legal studies. He continued to Willamette University College of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate.

When Joseph is not at the office you can find him training for triathlons, playing basketball, and spending time with his wife and their goldendoodle.

As a seasoned trial attorney, he has handled everything from DUIIs to serious felony cases, including Measure 11 offenses. Whether pursuing a case dismissal, negotiating a plea deal, or taking a case to trial, Dan is committed to guiding his clients through the legal process with skill and determination.

A Career Built in the Courtroom

For more than three years, Dan has worked in criminal defense, representing clients across a broad spectrum of cases, from misdemeanors to major felonies, including homicide. Before that, he prosecuted cases as a Deputy District Attorney for Marion County in Salem, Oregon, where he handled property crimes, drug offenses, DUIIs, and Measure 11 person crimes. His legal career began in family law, where he worked on divorce, custody, and child support cases before clerking for a Superior Court Judge in Anchorage, Alaska. He was admitted to the Alaska Bar in 2017 and the Oregon Bar in 2019.

Education & Professional Involvement

Dan earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, where he also played college baseball. He went on to obtain his law degree from Willamette University College of Law, where he was actively involved in legal scholarship. He served as Editor-in-Chief for Willamette Law Online, worked as an editor for the Willamette Journal of International Law and Dispute Resolution, and was a Moot Court competitor. He is a member of the Marion & Deschutes County Bar Associations and the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyer Association (OCDLA).

Beyond the Courtroom

When he’s not advocating for his clients, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and pursuing his favorite outdoor activities, including hiking, golfing, hunting, and fishing. A devoted Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan, he also enjoys discussing the intersection of sports and law—a passion that has inspired him to launch a podcast covering everything from professional sports to the U.S. Supreme Court.
